SUMMER YOUTH PARTY at the High School for Public Service Farm! Friday, August 13th, 11am-2:30pm (600 Kingston Avenue) Come celebrate a successful summer on the farm and meet the teens who helped make it all possible! Find out why kale salad is the teens favorite meal on the farm! The party is sponsored by Global Kids through a DYCD grant to highlight the work Global Kids has done this summer on the farm. 11:00am to 12:00pm Welcome by GK Leaders and the Mayor's office Come hear what our teens have to say about the farm: our teens will be supporting Global Kids during this party with cooking demonstrations and farm tours, but our teens have tackled so much more on the farm this summer! They have worked with Brooklyn Food Coalition to map local food access in the neighborhood; they have worked with the teens at East New York Farms!; they have visited Boswyck Farms to learn about hydroponics; they have cleaned out our chicken coop; they have participated in food justice, communiciation, and horticulture workshops; they have cooked numerous community meals on the farm; and they have worked our farmers market selling fresh produce to the community. Our Summer Youth Employment Progarm is in partnership with the High School for Public Service, Expeditionary Learning School for Community Leaders and their Growing Leaders program. If you have a Summer Youth Employment program and you would like to participate in this Friday's event, please let us know ahead of time. Visit the BK Farmyards website for more information on how you can get involved in the program. |
